Mathilda Lovell is a Franco-British ceramist.
After a foundation year in Applied Arts and studies in language and literature in Paris, Mathilda crosses the Atlantic Ocean to study ceramics at the Centre de Céramique Bonsecours in Montreal where she’s been working ever since. Inspired by her grandfather who was also a potter, Mathilda presents us with utilitarian objects as well as white porcelain jewellery. The European inspired shapes are harmonious, soft and generous and contrast well with the bright and colourful free-handed decoration, mostly inspired by Aboriginal, African and Maori art.
Mathilda’s collections, full of wisdom and fantasy often have the resurgence of spirals from one collection to another. It is inspired of the Maori Koru, symbol of new life, growth, strength and peace, and a little something she’s been doodling since childhood.
